Darjeeling producers storm in a teacup?
TEA producers in the Darjeeling hills have slammed growers from other Indian regions who are marketing tea sold under the Darjeeling name.
The Darjeeling Planters Association (DPA) has called for a patent for Darjeeling brands, making use of the Tea Boards special logo, which is mandatory for the marketing of pure Darjeeling tea.
It says that only genuine Darjeeling producers want to try lift the productivity of their land through improved agricultural practices, rejuvenation of bushes and filling the gaps between groups of bushes with high-yielding plants.
