DoE gives £15m to open up countryside
THE department of the environment has given £15 million towards opening up thousands of acres of moorland, mountain and heath to ramblers next year.
More than £6m in extra funding will go to the Countryside Agency, while £5m will go to English Nature.
The regional development agencies will get £3m and the National Parks and Broads Authority about £1m
The environment department has also announced an extra £2m next year for the Environment Agency, bringing its total grant to £100m.
The funding will help provide advice to farmers about the disposal of agricultural waste and help industry prepare for new measures for pollution control.
