Drill kit suits range of soils

YOU do not take just one spanner to fix an engine, reasons Kverneland.

Similarly, the company believes having only one form of cultivation kit available for a drill which is expected to work in a wide variety of soil types and conditions, is equally restrictive.

Kverneland has now produced 4m and 4.5m versions of its Accord MSC high speed drill which can be equipped with a number of different cultivator components to suit individual needs.

Available as seed-only or as seed and fertiliser, the drills modular build allows a "tool box" of S or flat tines, disc harrows, packer rollers and coulter types to be specified. This, says the manufacturer, enables the drill to be used for mulch drilling or on conventionally cultivated land. In some conditions it may also be used as a direct drill.

To fully exploit this pick-and-mix option, the drills can also be set as short or long wheelbase units to accommodate a greater or lesser degree of cultivation kit. The wheelbase is altered by reversing the position of the central wheels to maintain an even weight distribution when the tool-carrying unit is extended rearwards.

In cab controls for the MSC includes electronic monitoring of the seed metering system, hopper content, tramlines and fan speed. A higher spec system enables on the move adjustment of seed rates and provides a diagnostic function for the drills sensors.

There is also the opportunity to link the drill to a DGPS system – Fieldstar, ACT and LH Agro – so that variable seed rate applications can be achieved.

Hopper capacity is 2400 litres for both 4m and 4.5m versions which both fold hydraulically to create a transport width of 3m. Designed to be operated at speeds of up to 15kph, minimum power requirement is put at 150hp.

Price of the 4m model starts at £25,837, but the final tally may vary significantly depending on the cultivation system selected. &#42

Kvernelands Accord MSC drill range now includes 4m and 4.5m versions. This model has a long wheelbase, with the user selecting to employ two rows of discs as the primary cultivation unit.
