Durham family estate offered

A SUBSTANTIAL farm in Weardale, Co Durham, now is for sale which has been in the same family ownership for nearly 120 years.

"The Newlands Hall Estate, Frosterley should provide plenty of interest as it is the first time for many years that a Weardale farm of this size and scope has been offered for sale on the open market," said T Vickers handling the sale.

The 740-acre farm is managed as a livestock unit and includes fell rights for 455 ewes and a modern range of farm buildings providing accommodation for 100 suckler cows.

Also a four-bedroom house and some traditional buildings are included in the sale. The guide price is offers over £800,000 for the whole.

Also in Norfolk, Cruso & Wilkin are handling the sale of 515-acres as a whole or in three lots. Whitehall, Chapel and Homestead Farm, Salters Lode, near Downham Market is guided at £1.5m

However, in lots the bulk of the land, 342 acres which ranges from silty to clay soils, at Whitehall Farm, is guided at £1.05m and includes a range of farm buildings and an irrigation reservoir with a 13.9m gallon capacity.

The remaining acreage is split into 120 and 53-acre blocks and is all classified grade 1 with cropping including cereals, sugar beet and pototoes.
