E.coli risk warning on farms
Children playing on farms may be at risk of pick up the E.coli bacteria, according to the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.
The warning follows the infection of a four-year-old boy visiting a farm on a school visit as well as the infection of visitors at the recent Glastonbury festival, who are believed to have caught the bug from mud contaminated by cow dung.
Ann Goodwin, CIEH secretary, said it was very difficult to prevent children coming in contact with disease-causing bacteria in farm environments.
