End of an era for Cumbrian farm

THE dispersal of the Mossrose herd of Holsteins turned the page on a piece of Cumbrian history last week. Jenny Dickinsons family have been tenants for 162 years at Moss End Farm, Dalston.

The 140 head included the big Mascot daughter Gaitland Mascot Freda, bred out of a Hanoverhill Laird dam, which made 2050gns. Sold dry and due soon with her second to Second Look Jolt, she had given just over 7000kg as a heifer. Buyers were R E Hodgson and Son, Wigton.

The Swainson family from Thursby, Carlisle gave 900gns to add Mossrose Jonah Peggy 9th to their Howend herd. She was AId in June to Jolt.
