Entertainment fills stock gap at Kent show
YOUNG farmers clubs from all over the county gathered at the Kent County Show. Despite being unable to take livestock to the show because of foot-and-mouth precautions, they provided plenty of entertainment for the public.
Ashford YFC, which played a huge role in organising the event, won the Wilmot Cup for best display and its chairman, Chris Bowley, won the Hadlow Cup for his contribution to the show. The club also won the scrap heap challenge and the three-legged fancy dress race.
Brockhill Park School YFC won the fancy dress treasure hunt, the papier maché challenge, the mock stock auction and the video clip classes. Members Stacey Chapman and Amy Wiles proved themselves far from squeamish by completing a sponsored bath in baked beans!
Meopham School YFC competed in every event and took obstacles and a good soaking in their stride to win the tournament, while Cobtree YFC won the champion duck prize and the poster competition.
"The show was a fantastic opportunity for school YFCs and open YFCs to mix and make friends," said Kent Federation secretary Donna Hawkes-Bains.
Beany bather: Amy Wiles took a sponsored dip and like the Kent Federation members above, had a great time at the show.
