Environment aid up

ENVIRONMENTAL schemes are to receive an extra £2m from MAFF, with half targeted on the English uplands through expansion of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme, junior farm minister Elliot Morley has announced.

In addition, up to £500,000 will be spent on the agri-environment elements of the upland experiments in the Forest of Bowland and on Bodmin Moor with the aim of testing how an integrated programme of agri-environment and rural development funds can work on a practical level.

Mr Morley said the pilot Arable Stewardship scheme would also be maintained for another two years, with an additional £500,000 allocated for new agreements each year. &#42
