Envy of the world
BRITAINS food standards agency will one day be envied by countries all over the world, reckons junior farm minister Jeff Rooker.
Speaking at a conference on food safety in London, Mr Rooker said that although the agency would be consumer-focused, it would not be allowed to "denigrate or undermine British producers".
Mr Rooker also made no apologies for the FSA White Paper being "vague" about the issue of funding. He said the paper was designed to be a consultation document, and that was why there was nothing concrete in it about how much industry would be expected to pay.
He said further information on the agencys costing structure would be released in June. *
