A NEW comparative test of wheat and rape establishment techniques will feature at the Sprays & Sprayers event in Cambs – but not until next year.
Focus on Establishment will look at seed rate, sowing precision and one pass cultivation/sowing. It will be hosted by East Anglian seed supplier Direct Farm Marketing of Halstead, Essex.
Six key drill makers will each have 15 x 25m plots divided into three areas – September sown winter wheat and spring barley and spring oilseed rape sown just two weeks prior to the event to demonstrate plant spacing and evenness of depth.
"Were not trying to demonstrate drills in action, but the results of their work, which is of course far more important to the grower," says DFM managing director John Poulton.
