EU chaos leaves trade talks in limbo
THE mass resignation of the European Commission yesterday has put a questionmark over trade negotiations between the European Union (EU) and the USA.
The two sides are close to a trade war over banana imports and the EUs ban on hormone-treated beef.
The power vacuum created by the resignations also puts in doubt progress in the run-up to a global trade liberalisation round.
The resignations came after a damning critique of the European administration, which made damaging disclosures about several commissioners.
