EU closes barley export tenders – HGCA

  • Barley tenders to close

At last Thursdays MANCOM, the EU announced their intention to close all tenders to export intervention barley.

Sales from intervention this season have reached 2 million tonnes, helped by strong world demand. Only 260,000t of barley remains unsold in EU stores, 90% of which is German.

Last week saw over 200,000 tonnes of intervention barley bid for, with less than 20% of bids sold.

  • Euro slips against dollar

Despite continued uncertainty over the US election result, the Euro slipped a further 1US¢ over the week. At 84US¢, the Euro has slipped around 3US¢ from levels immediately post intervention.

  • Planting delays raise MATIF wheat price

MATIF wheat rose Euro1-2/t last week as planting delays also continue in France. November 2001 wheat, at Euro121/t, is a Euro20 premium over intervention.

  • Euro1 = 59.66p or 84.06US¢ at time of writing
