EU farm ministers meet on banana issue

EUROPEAN UNION (EU) farm ministers are meeting in Luxembourg to try and resolve its banana import regime to comply with World Trade Organisation rules (WTO).

The WTO backed a complaint from the USA and several Latin American countries that the EU unfairly discriminated against them in favour of Caribbean banana-growers.

Ministers will also discuss aspects of Common Agricultural Policy
reform, including the olive oil and tobacco sectors.
