Europe approves S Africa trade pact

EUROPEAN heads of government have approved a wide-ranging trade and co-operation pact between the European Union (EU) and South Africa.

The deal, made in Berlin, will liberalise the EU market for about 75% of South African farm products.

It was held up by several EU members concerned that changes would hit their markets for sensitive products such as canned fruit, fruit juices and cut flowers.
