Europeans tell Blair fur ban is illegal

THE European farming groups, Copa, which includes the National Farmers Union, and Cogeca, have protested at the UKs proposed ban on fur farming.

The groups wrote to the European Commission after Copa said it had a legal opinion saying the ban violates articles 28 and 30 of the Treaty of Rome.

They will tell Tony Blair at the Helsinki summit that the proposed ban is illegal and likely to lead to Britain being prosecuted in the European Court.

A European ban on fur farming is opposed by France, Germany, Sweden and Finland.
