Farm incomes keep on sliding
By Brian Brady, Press Association
FARMING incomes are continuing to plummet, with this years results likely to be worse than 1997, the Government has disclosed.
Jeff Rooker, junior farm minister, said in a Commons written reply that the total income from UK farming in 1997 was £3.36 billion – a fall of 37% in real terms on the previous year.
He said the 1998 figure would not be available until December – but “the indications are that it will be lower than in 1997”.
