DEFRA imposes protection zone around latest foot and mouth outbreak

DEFRA has extended the foot and mouth surveillance zone following the confirmation of a second outbreak on another farm in Surrey.

On Monday (6 August) DEFRA slaughtered 100 cattle considered dangerous contacts on land adjoining the farm at the centre of the outbreak.

Tests subsequently confirmed the presence of foot and mouth disease in these animals.

On Tuesday (7 August) DEFRA then imposed a 3km protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone around these premises.
