Internet action off to a flying start
More than 200 people have already pledged their support for FW’s new campaign Local Food is Miles Better by registering at our website fwi.co.uk
Nearly all have signed our on-line petition calling for supermarkets to stock more local food and label it clearly.
Visitors can request email updates on the campaign’s progress.
They can also can nominate candidates for the Farmers Weekly Food Miles Heroes Roll of Honour.
This special showcase recognises the achievement of individuals who have taken action to cut the distance food travels between farm gate and plate.
So far, more than 20 candidates have been nominated, from Bruton in Somerset to Ormskirk in Lancashire.
For example, Philip Butler, who runs his Bill The Butcher business in Bruton, was celebrated for “…stocking loads of high-quality, local food which is clearly labelled with the distance the food has travelled from producer to shop.”
If you know of deserving candidates for FW’s Food Miles Heroes Roll of Honour, why not help them win wider recognition among FWi’s 90,000 unique users.
And a selection will be featured in FW, which is read by 200,000 people each week.
