NFU president joins Food From Britain council

TIM BENNETT, NFU president, has been appointed a member of the council of Food from Britain by DEFRA secretary Margaret Beckett.

Food from Britain serves as the market development consultancy for British food and drink producers.

Mr Bennett said: “I am proud to accept a place on the Food from Britain council.

“I believe this country’s farmers and growers produce some of the best food in the world and Food from Britain plays a key role in its promotion.

“I look forward to working with FFB to raise awareness of our fine produce, link British producers with new markets internationally and attract more visitors to enjoy British food.”

The organisation receives a DEFRA grant of £5.4 million to maximise exports of food and drink produced in the United Kingdom.

FFB has received an additional £3m from DEFRA for 2003/06 to support the quality regional food sector.
