Farmer, 72, gored to death by stag

AN elderly farmer was gored to death by a stag as he fed a herd of farmed deer.

Matthew OShea, 72, is believed to have angered the stag by entering the paddock during the mating season.

Mr OShea had been feeding the herd for his son, who found him dead in the paddock near Kilrush, Co Clare.

About 500 farmers in the Irish Republic and Northern Ireland farm deer.

Stags are known to be particularly aggressive and territorial during the mating season.
