Farmer jailed for building home without planning

A farmer has been jailed after he built a house without planning permission.

Adrian Orr, of Derryclawan Road, Derryclawan, Lisbellaw, County Fermanagh, was jailed for six months for failing to comply with a notice to demolish his home in Northern Ireland.

He failed to pay a £76,000 fine for non-payment of an enforcement notice that sought the removal of the dwelling.

Mr Orr was convicted of non-compliance with a Department of the Environment (DOE) Planning Enforcement Notice.

He was convicted under Article 72 of the Planning (NI) Order 1991, as amended, as it is an offence to be in breach of an enforcement notice.

He was jailed at Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (30 September).

Speaking after the case, a DOE spokesman said enforcement action would continue “until the matter is resolved”.
