Farmers charged over livestock ban

FOUR farmers charged with breaching restrictions designed to stop foot-and-mouth disease from spreading will appear in court next week.

Colin Hebson, of Chapel Farm, Cotehill, Cumbria, will appear before Carlisle Magistrates Court on Monday (5 March).

He is accused of breaking the Foot and Mouth Declaratory (Controlled Area) Order 2001 which banned the transportation of livestock.

Three farmers are set to appear each before Hereford Magistrates Court on the same day accused of breaching the 1981 Animal Health Act.

The defendants face a fine of up to 5000 each if they are found guilty.
