Farmers join battle against the pylons

FARMERS in North Yorkshire are joining forces with members of the local Womens Institute in their battle against over 200 electricity pylons being erected across the countryside.

National Grid wants to run power lines from Lackenby on Teeside, to Shipton, near York. The women intend to demonstrate against the construction, which will run across 50 miles of countryside.

Farmers in the area say they will restrict access to the pylon sites by not allowing contractors on to private land.
