Farmers leaders meet Blair to push their case

UK farmers union leaders met Prime Minister Tony Blair yesterday to argue that
the Government must do more to help farming.

They pressed for more progress in getting the beef export ban lifted and
additional compensation for farmers for the strength of Sterling.

George Lyon, acting joint president of the Scottish National Farmers Union, said he was pleased the Prime Minister was prepared to listen. He said
the Government now realised that 9% of the population depended on farmers
staying in business.
