Farmers to be liable for food poisoning?
By FWi staff
FARMERS in the future could be sued by consumers who are made ill by eating bad food.
European politicians meeting in Brussels on Wednesday will discuss proposals to extend EU product liability law to cover primary agricultural products such as meat and cereals.
The proposals, which were recommended by the Parliaments BSE inquiry committee will be discussed during a two-day plenary Parliamentary session.
Todays Financial Times says that the approval of the plan would pave the way for consumers to claim compensation for harm caused by defective farm products.
