FIVE landowners received more than 1m in EU subsidies last year, Ministry of Agriculture figures reveal.
One farm received 1.8m in 2000-01 with four others receiving Common Agricultural Policy payments in excess of 1m, reports The Times.
While MAFF refused to identify the farmers involved, in the past the Earl of Iveagh has received 1m for set aside on his Suffolk estate.
David Watts, Labour MP for St Helens North said fat cat farmers were taking the public for a ride and urged MAFF to publish details on those involved.
