Financial Times joins subsidy debate
DEMANDS by Eastern European countries for equal farm subsidies when they join the European Union (EU) have been criticised by the Financial Times.
The Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Hungary, Poland and Slovenia want help from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
The newspaper observes that their demands are “unreasonable but not as unreasonable as the CAP itself.”
It urges the EU to review the CAP “and start preparing to dismantle the worst features of this absurdity”.
