Flood alerts across England and Wales

By FWi staff

FLOOD warnings have been issued across many parts of the country following heavy overnight rain.

The Environment Agency issued red alerts in 10 areas this morning, including parts of the West Country, the Midlands and the banks of the River Severn.

“We would urge people living in the warning areas to be vigilant,” said Sian Thomas, Environment Agency spokeswoman.

The risk of flooding in Herefordshire is expected to increase throughout the day.

Flooding is also likely along the banks of the River Severn in Shropshire, the West Midlands and Worcestershire.

In Wales, the rivers Vyrnwy, Wye, Lugg, Monnow and Usk are also on red alert.

In other parts of the country, low-lying land is expected to be flooded in East Anglia, the North East, the South West and the South East.

Anyone who is worried that they live in a flood-risk area can call the Environment Agency flood alert phone-line on 0645 881188.
