Flood protection scheme
WORK to protect 21,300ha (52,632acres) of agricultural land in the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads from flooding will start next spring, the Environment Agency announced this week.
It has now appointed preferred contractors for the £132m scheme and detailed negotiations over contracts are underway.
The work will involve raising the banks in areas of the Broads waterway system to protect 1700 homes, farmland and wildlife habitats. *
