MINISTRY of Agriculture officials have denied reports that the Government has shelved plans for a Food Standards Agency.
Some media reports at the weekend claimed that plans for the agency would be omitted from next months Queens Speech.
But a MAFF spokesman this morning insisted that the Government was determined to see the Food Standards Agency established.
“We cannot discuss what might or might not be in the Queens Speech but the Government is still committed to a Food Standards Agency,” said the spokesman.
The Queens Speech details the Governments parliamentary programme for the coming year.
A Food Standards Agency was promised in the Labour Partys manifesto in the run-up to last years general election.
