France pressured for more farm reforms

FRANCE is under increasing pressure from Germany to “make further concessions on farm reform”, reports the Financial Times.

The German pressure is being applied in the run-up to the heads of government summit taking place in Berlin next week.

The heads of state are believed to want Euro7 billion (£4.7bn) more in savings over the 2000-2006 period to force a spending freeze on the European Unions budget.

The summit is expected to confirm sweeping reforms of the Common Agricultural Policy already agreed in outline by European Unions farming ministers.
