France to lift ban on beef in transit?

FRANCE is expected to agree this week to allow British beef to pass through it territory en route to other countries.

The move is being seen as an attempt to ease tension with Britain over its refusal to obey European Union orders to ease the ban on imports of the meat.

The EU Commission is expected to start legal proceedings against France and Germany if they continue to resist the EU decision.

The French government had not expected the 30 scientists of the independent food safety agency to rule on Friday that British beef was still too unsafe to be allowed into French shops.

This was despite strict rules for ensuring it was untainted by mad cow disease.
