Free advice at HSE roadshow

FARMERS in Notts and Derbys will get free health advice in November when the Health and Safety Executives Agricultural Health Roadshow swings into action.

A mobile unit, complete with medical staff and equipment to test eyes, lungs and hearing will be in the display area of Bakewell market on Nov 9 and in the lorry park at Newark market on Nov 18.

The roadshows are a joint venture between the HSE and Business Healthcare with the aim of improving farmers knowledge of the health problems they may face.

Alan Scott, the HSEs senior medical inspector for the midlands said: "It is clear that health messages are not getting through to farmers until it is too late. Each year 900,000 working days are lost in agriculture because of ill health. At nearly 1.5 days per worker, this is more than twice the national average for all industries. &#42
