Freedom Food guarantees new lifestyle for pigs
Pigs are guaranteed a whole new lifestyle if their owners are
persuaded to join the Freedom Food labelling scheme.
The Freedom Food scheme is run by the Royal Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. It is aimed at raising the living
standards for the 750m farm animals in the UK. More importantly, as the
Financial Times describes in a portrait of the scheme, it
produces a product which consumers are becoming increasingly more
concerned to buy.
The FT concludes: Higher standards of animal welfare might cost
farmers more. But if consumers are prepared to demand them – and pay for
them -they could give farmers a competitive advantage.
