French BSE claim

FRANCE has repeated its accusation that Britain is responsible for the spread of BSE to the continent, because it continued to allow exports of meat and bonemeal after 1988, the year it was banned in domestic rations.

The claim is made in a new report from a National Assembly commission of inquiry and echoes the findings of a similar study by the Senate, (upper house), published just over a month ago.

President of the inquiry team, Francois Sauvadet, said it was striking that, while the epidemic was gathering pace in the UK, no information was ever given by the authorities to the French government.

This is denied by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. &#42
