French town buys only local food

A SMALL French town has struck another blow for Frances beleaguered farmers by banning all but fresh local produce from its school canteen.

The move by the town council of Pamiers, near the Spanish border, reflects national sentiment towards the preservation of Frances agricultural heritage.

It comes after a wave of popular protest last summer against US-style industrialised agriculture and in support of traditional French food producers.
