SUGAR-BEET processing continues apace this week, with all factories working at or above target slicing rates. Yield and quality remain high.
The full national sugar quota is expected to be processed by today (9 January), according to Robin Limb of British Sugar.
That usually takes 80-85% of the annual beet tonnage. At the start of this week, 69% had been processed, adding weight to earlier predictions by many growers of a record-breaking year.
Recently delivered beet remains in good order. Sugar content averages 17.5% for the season.
Top tare (7.24%) and dirt tare (5.12) are at or below the five-year average, said Mr Limb.
