Fund raises 1.8m for rural Cumbria

By FWi staff

A RURAL charity has issued a big thank-you to people who donated 1.8 million to the Cumbria Community Recovery Fund.

Trustees and staff at the Cumbria Community Foundation, which manages the fund, raised the money for those affected by the foot-and-mouth crisis.

The money came from more than than 1500 individual donations and a host of community fund-raising initiatives held across the country.

The Fund also attracted government funding through the North West Development Agency and a number of grants from charitable trusts.

Most recently, Radio Cumbria launched a collection of personal anecdotal stories called Foot and Mouth, Heart and Soul.

The proceeds from the sale of this much sought after publication will be donated to the Cumbria Community Recovery Fund.

To date 950,000 has been awarded to community groups and individuals, including an extensive range of small businesses bit by foot-and-mouth.
