FWAG secures £23m grants

ALMOST £23m of grant aid for environmental improvement was secured for UK farmers by the Farming and Wildlife Advisory Group in the year to Mar 31, 1999.

FWAGs review of the year also shows that advisors made almost 6500 farm visits, covering 1.8m ha of land, earning over £1m for chargeable work. Income grew by 13% to just under £3m, 58% of it from conservation advice.

Expenditure rose 15%, mainly due to an 11% increase in the staff numbers to 135, though management costs were cut. As a result, the surplus rose to £114,296, compared with £64,517 the previous year.

Total reserves rose 12% to £1.1m.
