Gamble Texels are top two

STOCK from Henry Gambles Springwell flock at Bangor claimed the champion and reserve titles at the Northern Ireland Texel Sheep Breeders Clubs latest fixture at Portadown.

And it was the reserve champion that made the top price of 1400gns selling to &#42 Wilson, Crumlin. This February-born ram lamb was by Neills Gucci and out of a ewe by Downkillybegs Action Man.

Judge Flor Ryan, Kildare gave the top award to Mr Gambles outstanding gimmer by Springwell Friday and out of a Baltier Delegate ewe. She realised 1050gns to Mr Irvine, Co Down.

Mr Gambles pen of gimmers, which included another deal at 750gns, was one of the highlights of the sale with most sired by Friday or his sire Cowal Enterprise.

Both rams are having a major impact on the Springwell flock and have already produced a string of high priced progeny. The gimmers on this day levelled at £496 for six sales.

Top price in the female section was 1200gns paid by Martin Crommie, Co Down for an exceptional shearling from Louise Reids Castlenavan flock at Seaforde, Downpatrick. It was by Tullyear Ferrari and out of a dam by Blackstown Diamond.

The sale produced a strong demand for the 400 sheep on offer and was in line with the keen demand experienced throughout the last four weeks which has seen over 2000 pedigree Texel sheep change hands at sales in Ulster. (Automart). &#42
