GM protesters target environment chief

ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners picketed fields owned by Lord de Ramsey, head of the Environment Agency, at the weekend.

The protesters were joined by villagers from Abbots Ripton, the hamlet near Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, where Lord de Ramsey lives.

They were demonstrating against Lord de Ramseys decision to allow genetically modified (GM) crops to be grown on his land.

About 12 activists from the environmental group Genetix Snowball formed the core of the demonstration.

The hereditary peer said it was important to take part in the licensed tests which he felt were tightly-regulated.
