Golden opportunity
THE newly-formed Cornish Holsteins hosted the annual Golden Opportunity sale at St Austell where 30 heifers from leading south west herds were offered and twice achieved a top price of 2000gns.
Alan and Bernadette Bennett, owners of the Penberlan herd, hosted the sale where an in-calf heifer carrying the Ciderhouse prefix was first to attract the leading bid.
Ciderhouse Patron Fleur 3rd, consigned by David and Valerie Norman, Trudoxhill, Somerset, was bought by the Smale family from Launceston, Cornwall.
American breeding found favour with the ringside who equalled the 2000gns call for Earlshilton Integrity Karess offered by the Sercombe family who had made the long journey from Wiltshire.
Averages: seven in-calf heifers £964 and eight empty heifers £1165. (Greenslade Taylor Hunt). *
