Good yields all round on chalk
DORSET Farmer Bob Rowe has reported above average yields on all crops on the chalk soil. He should finish the 160ha (400 acres) left by the weekend.
Quality wheat was combined before rain two weeks ago. The Hagberg was between 350-400, protein 12.7-12.9% with specific weight 79Kg/hl.
“Claire was the worst on yield at 10t/ha (4t/acre). Malacca and Savannah have topped over this. This is exceptional for a season like weve had this year. Weve had yields up to 11t/ha (4.5t/acre), which is a good 1t/ha (0.4t/acre) up on average.”
He has combined 150ha (370 acres) of peas. Nitouche and Selector have yielded 4.5-5.5t/ha (1.8-2.2t/acre). Spring barley has been good quality and had good yields. Early drilled spring barley yielded 7t/ha (2.8t/acre) and April drilled crop yielded 5.5t/ha (2.2t/acre).
