Government inquiry into BSE in milk

A GOVERNMENT investigation is being launched to establish if there is a link between BSE and dairy products, reports The Guardian.

This follows assurances that dairy products are safe from causing the human form of BSE, new variant Creutzfeldt Jakob disease (nvCJD).

The Food Standards Agency has asked for the research to begin as soon as possible and re-examine previous studies.

The 800,000 inquiry follows a recommendation by the Spongiform
Encephalopathy Advisory Committee (SEAC)

A ministry of agriculture spokeswoman told The Guardian that milk was safe but the aim of the research was to put this beyond doubt.
