Grain market update
Fridays trading – 5 September 1997
THE UK market was very thin on Friday, with buyers still concentrating on nearby requirements. Good premiums were being paid for 72kg and biscuit wheats in Yorkshire, where harvesting has been slow and quality looks to be very poor.
Class 1 milling wheat is valued at £103-106/t ex-farm. Feed wheat is valued at £81-86/t ex-farm depending on quality. Feed barley is valued at £73-76/t ex-farm, depending on proximity to ports.
Oilseeds have firmed over the past week, aided by the weakness in Sterling, and the current rape price is around £155/t ex-farm, with a good carry to November of £4-5/t.
