GRANT applications for the arable stewardship scheme must be in by Mar 31.
Farmers should be aware that funds are limited and the application procedure is complex, advises chartered surveyor Smith-Woolley.
The scheme, launched in January, is open to farmers in two pilot areas in East Anglia and the West Midlands.
Annual payments are granted for managing arable fields for five to six years to enhance wildlife. Funds of £0.5m are available to meet costs of agreements reached in the first year. *
