Great chance to see rare Swallowtail…

BUTTERFLY Conservation is giving farmers weekly readers the chance to watch Britains largest butterfly, the magnificent Swallowtail, at one of its Norfolk nature reserves.

Normally open only to members of Butterfly Conservation, Catfield Fen reserve is being opened by the charity on Sun, Jun 21 to show off the rare butterfly to those with an interest in wildlife who work the land for a living and to explain just what can be achieved through sensitive management of specialised habitats.

Meet at 11am or 2pm for a guided walk around this usually restricted nature reserve. As well as the Swallowtail, which occurs only in Norfolk, Catfield Fen is also home to other butterflies, birds and dragonflies. Stout footwear is essential, or wellingtons if the weather is wet.

The reserve is situated along Fenside Lane (unmarked) which runs west from Catfield parish church. Car parking is available at OS grid reference TG365215. Only 40 cars can park at any one time. There is no charge, but donations may be made at the gate. Details from Roland Rogers (01603-453512).
