Greens and farmers clash in British Colombia
ENVIRONMENTALISTS and farmers are at loggerheads over the use of farmland in British Colombia, according to the Financial Times.
Approval for plans to develop marginal farmland for other uses – including a golf course – have met with a storm of protest by environmentalists, the paper reports.
Just 100ha (247 acres) is at stake, but the regions agricultural land reserve is described the most powerful piece of farmland protection in North America.
The provinces government is expected to be removed from office next year as a result of its decision to allow the development to go ahead.
