Gunman hunted after lamb shot dead

A gunman who walked on to a farmer’s field and shot a lamb dead is being hunted by police.
The distressed farmer found the lifeless lamb with a single gunshot wound to its head.
Officers from Cambridgeshire Constabulary are seeking help from the farming community to catch the person responsible for the random and pointless killing.

Police were called to the scene of the incident in Alconbury Weston Road, Buckworth, on Saturday (30 September).
The village is situated on the top of a hill surrounded by farmland about seven miles from Huntingdon.
A police spokesman told Cambridgeshire News: “We were called at 11.24am on Saturday (30 September) to reports that a lamb had been shot on farmland between Alconbury Weston and Buckworth.
“The incident occurred between 6.30pm on 29 September and 8am on 30 September.
“Officers investigated the incident and explored all possible lines of enquiry.
“Unfortunately, no arrests have been made.”
‘Shot through head’
A police report said: “Unknown offender(s) have entered farm premises and killed a lamb by shooting it through the head.”
Meanwhile, joyriders damaged crops in a field in nearby Hamerton Road, Alconbury Weston, after driving over 36ha of land on Saturday.
Police are unable to say if both incidents are linked to the same offenders. Anyone with information is urged to contact Cambridgeshire police on 101.
