HAGBERG levels in 10 different winter wheats harvested at ADAS Bridgets on Aug 19 closely match predictions made under a scheme now being piloted (Arable, p56).

Half the varieties in a small plot trial, Malacca, Soissons, Spark, Abbot and Hereward, comfortably exceeded the forecast 250 with scores of 404, 337, 296, 292 and 271 respectively.

The only variety clearly adrift of its prediction was Cantata on 134. Orange blossom midge damage or green grains missed at sampling may be to blame.
